Title of Resolution:

2018.2.R19: WG-USA Resource Person for UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030

WG-USA Resolves:

The WG-USA President with the approval of the Board will appoint a member to be a Sustainable Development Goals Resource Person to provide advice for the work of program and advocacy especially as it relates to #4 Education, #5 Gender equality, #10 Reduced Inequalities, #16 Peace & Justice, and #17 Partnerships. This will be an off-board position working under the auspices of the Advocacy Convener and is to be available for any committee, working group, or the Board as an SDG Resource Person.

Plan of Action:

At this time there are no action items.

Supporting Statement:

The Sustainable Development Goals 2030 is a shared agenda for all peoples. WG-USA realizes that as a part of civil society we have a crucial role in translating this global agenda into our education and advocacy activities. Indeed, we have already recognized this as reflected in resolutions and issues objectives. However, to become more intentional and effective in these efforts, having a member specifically focused on:

1. Better incorporating the SDG Targets into our work.

2. Providing the membership with tools for better understanding their individual role in achieving the SDGs.

3. Monitoring U.S. gender inclusion factors as outlined in the WG-USA Resolution 17 passed in October 2017.

Financial Implication for WG-USA: 

At this time no cost is anticipated.
